How to check your credit rating?

I never really have any idea what my credit rating is but I would like to find out.

How would I find out my Credit Rating, and is there a way to do it online?

There are actually three credit agencies -- Experian, Equifax and Transunion. Many states allow you to get a free copy of one or all of your credit reports once a year or something like that. You should look into the rules and contact all three agencies.

I think in the UK there may be a charge - but not much.

If you want to get an idea of your credit rating, you could always just talk to your bank and see what they would be happy lending you - that should give some idea of how well or poorly they rate you for credit.

There is a new law in effect as of last September 2005 I think that means everyone can get their credit reports for free. You used to have to pay for them in some states in the US

Yes, you can get one free credit report a year. Don't let certain advertising companies fool you - the only government approved site for a free credit report is www.annualcreditreport.com - you can reach them at 1-877-322-8228.

Other sites can get you similar information, but they will always get your credit card number first for services you probably don't need.

Everyone is always trying to make a buck, aren't they. Irritating to say the least--especially when it's really free!

That site gives you the report for free but you have to pay for the credit score, that is so silly looks like it would be on the report, and after all why should you have to pay for your own personel information.

I guess I should be grateful I no longer have to pay for the credit report but I resent having to pay for the credit score. It's like they lure you in with part of the information for free and charge you for the rest. Does anybody know of any promotions to get the score for free?

I am really not sure how you can get a credit score for free. I did run across a site called E-LOAN: Mortgage Refinance, Home Equity, Auto Loans, Savings Accounts, CDs, Line of Credit, Home Loans, Second Mortgage, No Lender Fees that claims to give you your score for free. I actually didn't try it but you might want to check it out.

I do have a quick question about your credit score. Is it true that everytime you fill out an application for a credit card that your score goes down. And if that's true why is that?

I have never checked my credit rating. I have thought about doing it but was never really sure how to go about it. Thank you for all your information. Now I think am going to try it.

I think the only way to get your credit score for free is to ask to see it when a business pulls your rating, like when you're opening a bank account.

i recently checked mine and you don't need to pay if you use it for 30 days (its a free trial) - insurespot.co.uk has that service - hope this helps!

Last I did it, I used myFICO.com do the trial and it will give you your FICO score, which unless I am mistaken is your credit score
