Default Credit Affect of Interest Free Hospital Bill

I just had a baby and although I have insurance, the bill is pretty astronomical because my daughter spent a week in the NICU for fear of infection.

The hospital offers very low payments ($25/month) on their portion of our overall bill which totals about $15,000, and they don't charge any interest. While at this low payment it would take us 60 years to pay it off, it seems like a pretty good option, except that I'm wondering how it might affect my credit score, (carrying such a high balance and making such low payments). My credit score now is really stellar and I don't want it to take a hit.

Typically medical bills do not appear on your credit report... UNLESS you don't pay and they have to make collection action against you. THEN it will suddenly appear and wreak havoc.

If you can afford to pay more than $25 a month... then definite do so since you really don't want to have to think about the NICU for the rest of your life.
