Just my own personal opinion here, but not buying anything fun and just working hard day in and day out for necessities would have me depressed in about ten minutes flat. I think that life has to have some fun things to keep going, no?

I think the poster might have been saying don't buy the things really not needed everytime you go into the store. I think everyone at one time or another needs to splurge.

When I'm shopping online, I always open a second browser and check for discount codes/coupons before I check out. If I have an order ready to check out at xyzinc, I google "xyzinc discount coupon" and about 80% of times I can find something. It's often just free shipping, but that's great! Sometimes it's a nice surprise like 15 or 20% off the order for first time customers.

I usually make a list, and try to stick to it as much as possible.

I'm big on comparative shopping right now, if I find an electronic item especially that I want I look around for a cheaper price online with ebay, amazon and overstock out there it's pretty easy to do.

I do all of my shopping online. That way I dont have to deal with screaming kids in malls... I can also price check many companies at once for the same item to make sure i'm getting the best deal. Ebay is also pretty fun if you have the time.

I try to avoid impulse shopping. Sometimes I find myself buying things just because I am "in the mood" to shop. I need to think about what I am going to buy, particularly with clothes, and make sure I really want it and it is worth it. I also try not to fall in to trends - at least not right when they surface. I like to take my time and make sure it is something I will want and keep. This has kept me from buying many fashion mistakes

Buying things I use a lot in bulk helps me save money, and yard sales, also comparison shopping for things I buy online, and when I am in the states I love to check out Ross, Marshalls and all the discount stores.

I prefer to buy things anytime when I get something new and interesting I buy that. I do not wait for correct time.
