I choose a bank which provide great online service since it is comfortable for me. It is one of the biggest bank here and has lots of ATM machines everywhere.

Initially I went with the bank that my company had a salary account in. As I grew up and moved out of that company I was happy to see that it was an efficient bank.

Good customer service and secure (award-winning) online banking were what did it for me, after years dealing with a bank with truly dreadful customer service.

I have always been with the same bank, I have not had any problems so have never seen a reason to move that account. I am not entirely sure why I chose that bank, I believe I had known other people banking there and not heard of a problem, perhaps it was recommended to me and I have just stuck.

That being said, however, I have also opened up different accounts with other banks for different purposes, this was because of what they were offering and again, personal recommendations.

As I have never moved banks, I am not sure how difficult or easy it is, so I am comfortable not trying I thinK!

Originally I went with HSBC, because I needed a business account and figured I may as well set up a personal one while I was there. Because it was easy to transfer cash across, and also cash cheques for both in one place, it became my main account.

Since I moved to Scotland though it's been an issue, because currently HSBC only have 3 branches in Scotland - I have to take a 50 min train journey to cash cheques now for my personal account.

I'm assured that HSBC are opening over a dozen new branches over the next 2 years across Scotland, though, which should be helpful.
While choosing the bank these things must b kept in mind:

location
behavior of the staff
services quality
types of account they offer etc.

I always look for the best online banking solutions including money transfer, utility bill payments, online account statements, cheque services, etc. Based on my personal experience ADCB provides complete, simple and secure online banking solutions in the UAE. Do have a word with them.

I have been with my bank for years - it was actually a choice of my first employer. Still with them. Studies say something really extraordinary should happen for you to leave a bank. While acquiring new clients is extremely hard.
