How bad is one failed payment for my credit score?

I am considering emptying my account to avoid and automatic payment that I expect soon to be debited from my account.

thus far my credit rating is probably clear of any missed payments or other black marks.

How much impact will have on my credit score if any? If its just the one time.

Re: How bad is one failed payment for my credit score?

I recently missed a payment with JCP or GE Capitol. They graciously agreed to have the late payment removed from my credit report. Credit score dropped significantly when this happened and I am wondering if your score goes back up as fast as it went down? I'm in need of a new car and I want the best loan possible, so I'm waiting on my score to go back up again.
